The Historic Preservation Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for a new, historically styled door hood at the George P. Miller House, finding the proposed copper face, wood brackets and pediment elements match the house's Queen Anne and Romanesque character.
Staff described the proposal as part of a continuation from last month: the removal of a non‑historic 1960s garage addition and a new door opening. Staff said the hood design takes cues from existing window pediments and includes a copper roof and wood brackets and recommended approval.
Gina (speaker 12), representing the property owner LLC, explained that ownership is held by family trusts split across two LLCs and that the owners are forming a 501(c)(3) to which they intend to donate the property and funds to restore and operate it as a historic resource and event space available to the Milwaukee Junior League. Gina invited commissioners to arrange tours and said the owners had invested significantly in restoration.
Commissioners asked routine questions about ownership, long‑term stewardship and prior work on the site; Gina outlined repair work including reinstallation of stained glass windows and interior preservation. A motion to approve the hood and related COA passed by voice vote. The applicant left contact details to coordinate follow‑up and potential site visits.
