Library donations, proclamations and residents’ comments highlight Flower Mound meeting

At the start of the May 4 meeting the council heard a sequence of community announcements and public comments.

Friends of the Flower Mound Library (represented by Anne Martin and Friends board members) announced an $80,000 donation aimed at capital projects including a children’s play patio and an expanded creation lab; Library Director Rachel Hadidi said the funds will be used to buy new STEM kits and support the creation lab expansion.

Atmos Energy (Leigh Ferguson, manager of public affairs) presented a corporate donation of $15,000 to support the library’s summer reading program; Ferguson described Atmos’s Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities corporate giving pillars and noted the library’s service to 16 Denton County communities.

The council proclaimed May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and recognized a hometown service member (Austin E. Caviar), accepted by Mandy Caviar. Several public commenters followed: Jackie Norell (Denton County historic preservation month and the Gibson Grant Log House spring jubilee), Vian Patel (BAPS Charities event and May 31 walk/run), Curtis Welker (resident complaints about Denton County property‑tax hearing process and arbitration experience), and Patrick Martin (remarks thanking departing council member Anne Martin for service).

These items were informational; council later moved into regular business.
