The commission heard an update on the Erie Municipal Building’s nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and held a public comment period as part of the commission’s certified‑local‑government obligations.
The city’s cultural resource manager told commissioners the nomination is scheduled for the state historic review board on June 2 and said the commission’s role was to provide time and space for public comment. "That will be on June 2, Tuesday," the presenter said when describing the state review timeline.
Commissioners and attendees discussed the building’s mid‑century modern and brutalist design, noting features such as reinforced concrete elements, terrazzo floors and original tiled finishes. One commissioner said the building is a strong example of its time and praised the opportunity to hear directly from the project architect; staff said a public tour and interpretive materials are anticipated to be available to the public later this summer.
The commission encouraged public comment and indicated they would forward any comments to the state review board as part of the nomination process.
