City planning staff told the Historic Review Commission that the role formerly titled Historic Preservation Planner has been changed to Cultural Resource Manager to reflect broader responsibilities across parks, open spaces and city archives while retaining the staff member’s liaison role to the commission.
The cultural resource manager said the new title does not change reporting lines — the position remains within the Bureau of Planning and Zoning — but does expand duties to include oversight of cultural resources in parks and the development of an archives and collections program.
Staff also updated commissioners on a grant‑funded project for local firehouse documentation. The bureau received a $25,000 grant from the state historic preservation office to support multi‑property documentation of the city’s firehouses; the RFP to secure consultant services was issued and the submission deadline was the day of the meeting. Staff said they will begin adjudicating proposals and match the grant funding to move the project forward.
No formal commission action was required on either item during the meeting.
