At the May 4 meeting, the board approved two contracts related to park facilities: an environmental testing agreement for the Shankaran Park pool and a roofing contract for a small storage building at Water Tower Park.
Tanya told the board that ACM Engineering and Environmental Services will perform pre-demolition testing for lead-based paint and asbestos prior to moving into pool demolition. She said a city special-ops crew provided a demolition quote for just under $300,000 and that the ACM agreement will allow the department to proceed toward demolition. "We're moving, quickly, as quickly as possible," she said, adding hope that demolition would be complete in June.
The board also approved an agreement with Bontrager Roofing to replace the roof on a small storage building at Water Tower Park; members noted the new roof comes with a 20-year manufacturer's warranty.
Both motions carried unanimously. Staff said the ACM agreement will next go to the Board of Works and that testing is a precursor to formal demolition contracting and scheduling.
