Sand Springs board approves consent agenda, rescinds a resignation and confirms superintendent will continue

The Sand Springs Public Schools Board approved routine consent items and multiple personnel actions and announced that it will continue Superintendent Miss Durkee’s employment, the board said at its meeting.

During the consent portion, board members approved listed items including events, a bus modification to create a reading bus and a letter of intent to apply for a 21st Century grant. A motion to approve the consent agenda passed on a unanimous roll call.

The board also considered item 43, approval of temporary teacher recommendations for the 2026–27 school year; the motion and second were recorded and the board voted in favor. Separately, the board approved a motion to rescind Ms. Ormey’s resignation after a nomination and a recorded vote.

On returning from an executive session to evaluate the superintendent, Chair (speaker 2) announced the board had reached agreement to continue Miss Durkee’s employment. "The agreement was to, continue the employment of miss Durkee for another year," the chair said, noting Durkee holds a three-year contract.

Board members and the superintendent also used the meeting to highlight instructional accomplishments, accreditation praise and upcoming events, including graduations and the district’s proposed reading-bus project. No board member registered a dissenting vote on recorded motions during the meeting.

What happens next: staff will implement consent-agenda items, proceed with temporary teacher appointments, and continue administrative coordination for personnel and program items.
