The Vernon County Board of Health on Oct. 8 voted to make Interim Health Director Amy Kleiber the permanent Health Officer/Health Director and to appoint Emily Olson as Deputy Health Director.
The board first moved into closed session under Wisconsin Statutes Section 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment matters. After returning to open session, Michelle Felton moved to make the interim appointments permanent; Glenda Sullivan seconded. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with Kelli Mitchell, Michelle Felton, Mary Rae, Glenda Sullivan, Sherrie Seidel and Chairperson Joann Nickelatti voting yes.
The action formalizes interim staffing put in place earlier in 2020 amid the COVID-19 response. Kleiber had been serving as interim director and led department updates during the meeting, and Olson was listed among staff in attendance.
The board followed the closed-session procedure specified in state law for personnel deliberations. The appointments were the final substantive items before the board adjourned; the board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2020 at 1 p.m.
Action details: the motion to appoint the two staff members was made by Michelle Felton and seconded by Glenda Sullivan; the roll-call vote was recorded as all yes among the six voting members present.
