Council approves beer garden for Chingawasa Days; updates paperwork beneficiary name

A representative of the Chingawasa Committee asked the Marion City Council for permission to run a beer garden during Chingawasa Days, describing a fenced north-half-park layout, coordination with police and the rules and map submitted in the council packet. The committee said ticket "buttons" went on sale and promotional materials will be distributed.

Councilor (S3) moved to approve the proposal and the motion passed unanimously after a brief discussion about updating paperwork: the proceeds line in the packet listed "Marion Advancement Campaign," and a councilor noted that name should be updated to the Marion Community Foundation. Staff confirmed proceeds will still go to the same place and agreed to revise the paperwork next year if needed.

The committee representative said prior years' beer-garden expansions have worked without major incidents and that police were satisfied with the proposed layout. The council’s approval authorizes the festival organizers to proceed under the submitted plan.
