Auditors give Newton an unmodified opinion on FY2025 financial statements

Martin, Starnes & Associates presented the Fiscal Year 2025 audit to Newton City Council on March 3 and issued an unmodified opinion, indicating the city's financial statements present fairly in all material respects.

Finance Director Kimberley Robinson introduced Brandi Fesperman, senior accountant with Martin, Starnes & Associates, who told council the audit was performed according to generally accepted auditing standards and Government Auditing Standards. Fesperman stated the auditors obtained reasonable assurance that the financial statements were free of material misstatement and that the statements "present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position" of the City of Newton for the year ended June 30, 2025.

Fesperman also commended the cooperation of finance staff. Mayor Jerry Hodge thanked the auditors and Finance Director Kimberley Robinson for their work.
