Boone County, Lebanon Utilities to share up to $140,000 to repair Bridge 310 on Park Street

Boone County commissioners approved an interlocal cooperation agreement with Lebanon Utilities to repair Bridge 310 on Park Street after county highway staff said past water-line work through the bridge abutment created recurring sinkholes and safety concerns.

Mike Karalski of the Boone County Highway Department described the planned work: place sleeves around the water line, permanently repair the abutment and backfill to prevent future erosion. Karalski said emergency calls about sinkholes are common at that location. “At one point, water lines were installed through the bridge abutment, that caused recurring sinkholes in the pavement that we the county and the city regularly get calls about,” Karalski said.

Karalski told the board the interlocal agreement sets a project cost not to exceed $140,000; the county’s share would be up to half ($70,000) to be paid from 2026 bridge preservation funds. He characterized $70,000 as the absolute maximum and said the county will try to keep costs down. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved execution of the interlocal agreement.

The agreement directs the county and Lebanon utilities to coordinate repairs and share costs; work and final costs will determine the actual county expenditure. Funding is drawn from the county’s 2026 bridge preservation appropriation.
