Yanceyville Council approves two annexations, one vote split 3–1

The Yanceyville Town Council voted May 3 to annex two properties into town limits, approving an approximately 6.018‑acre satellite annexation along U.S. Highway 158 and a contiguous annexation of 5.26 acres submitted by WIB, LLC.

Town Attorney Lee Farmer presented the ordinances during a public hearing, identifying the first tract as the former Caswell Mennonite Church property on the west side of U.S. 158 (recorded in Map Book 17, Page 573) and describing the WIB, LLC parcels on the north side of State Road 1572 (lots 6 and 7; Tax Map 82, parcels 66 and 72). "We will need an affirmative vote to go ahead and annex the property tonight," Farmer told the council during the hearing.

Councilman Brian Massey moved to annex the airport property; the motion passed 3–1, with Councilman Keith Tatum voting no. Councilman Tatum later moved to annex the 5.26 acres submitted by WIB, LLC; that motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

The annexations add properties contiguous to the town’s limits and, officials said, will be recorded in the Caswell County registry as noted in Farmer’s presentation. No additional zoning or development approvals were decided at the May 3 meeting; the annexations themselves bring the parcels under the town’s jurisdiction.

The council took the votes after entering and exiting a public hearing by unanimous votes. The council did not attach special conditions to either annexation at the time of the vote. The next regularly scheduled council meeting was recessed to May 24, 2022.
