Parish council adopts ordinance setting Tourism Commission meeting schedule, attendance rules

The St. Martin Parish Council voted unanimously April 7 to adopt Ordinance No. 26-04-1541-OR, which amends Section 20‑275(F) of the parish code to set recurring meeting practices and attendance requirements for the St. Martin Parish Tourism Commission.

Under the ordinance, the Tourism Commission will hold regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m.; the Executive Director may call additional meetings with at least 48 hours’ notice. The ordinance requires the Commission to rotate meeting locations throughout the parish to expand opportunities for public participation and directs the Executive Director to publish an annual schedule of meeting places. Commissioners are limited to one absence per quarter; exceeding that limit triggers written notice and a one‑quarter probation period, and continued excessive absence becomes grounds for removal by the Parish President.

The ordinance was presented during a public hearing; no members of the public spoke on the measure before the hearing was closed. The Council adopted the ordinance by unanimous vote. The ordinance includes a severability clause and becomes effective immediately upon Council approval and signature by the Parish President.
