A representative of AMVETS Post 12 asked Delaware County commissioners on Monday to consider supporting construction of a pavilion at the post to host veteran and community events.
Maurice Richardson, second vice commander for Post 12, said the pavilion would enable more veteran services and community activities, and that the post is conducting fundraising — including events such as a catfish tournament and a run — to help cover costs. He said the post has received state and national recognition for some events and expects attendance of 200–300 people at an upcoming event.
Commissioners thanked the presenters and voted to move the request to old business so staff and the board can consider potential support, possible redevelopment-commission involvement, and funding avenues; a commissioner suggested the post pursue grants through Destination Muncie.
Next steps: the item will return to the board as old business for further discussion and potential funding options.
