Vernon County Board of Health accepts coroner report, approves vouchers and staff in‑service funding

The Vernon County Board of Health on June 13 accepted the May coroner’s report and approved routine payments and a staff retention allocation.

Betty Nigh, Vernon County Coroner, told the board that the office recorded 29 deaths in May, including 21 cremations and eight burials; 89% of those cases were classified as coroner cases. Nigh reported monthly income of $3,892.48 and presented bills for review. Paul Wilson moved to accept the coroner’s report and allow payment of $4,129.32; David Eggen seconded the motion and the board voted all ayes.

Health Officer Amy Kleiber reviewed the department’s May expenditures and budget. Wilson moved to pay vouchers totaling $9,170.93; Martha Olson seconded and the motion carried on an all‑ayes vote.

Kleiber requested support for staff retention activities. Sherrie Seidel moved to allocate $1,500 (a $500 staff inservice plus up to $1,000 for additional retention expenses); Eggen seconded and the board approved the allocation unanimously.

Other procedural business completed at the meeting included acceptance of the May minutes (motion by Eggen, second by Wilson) and the formal motion to adjourn at 2:54 p.m.

The board set its next meeting for July 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sheriff’s Department Training Room.
