Robert Nisbett, Goleta city manager, said several recent developments suggest Goleta is emerging as a regional technology and advanced‑manufacturing hub.
Nisbett cited four items he described as facts: a recent roughly $235,000,000 commercial property transaction that moved a major share of Goleta business parks, entitlements granted to Google for an additional 100,000‑square‑foot facility, a large proportion of 2025 venture capital activity directed at the city, and a 10‑year UCSB lease for a 100,000‑square‑foot "Oasis" incubator near city hall. "Goleta has become a real... advanced technology hub," he said.
Nisbett stressed that the city did not create all of these market forces but that the local combination of campuses, talent from UCSB and industrial infrastructure has made Goleta attractive to technology investors and developers. He cautioned that growth can present both opportunities and community impacts and said officials must engage on land use and infrastructure planning as these projects evolve.
Nisbett and the panel did not offer a city action or incentive package tied directly to the transactions during the session; his remarks were framed as observations about market activity and the need to plan for infrastructure and workforce implications.
