Leander mayor calls for regional coordination as Central Texas growth accelerates

Leander Mayor Nicole Thompson used brief remarks at the Travis County State of the County event to frame rapid suburban growth as a regional challenge that calls for intergovernmental coordination.

Thompson said she moved to Leander in 2007 when the city had just over 15,000 residents and said the city now serves nearly 94,000 people. She described Leander as situated between Travis and Williamson counties, with a median household income she cited in the speech and a growing business base.

She emphasized partnership with Travis County on workforce, infrastructure and recreation, saying the future of the region "is shared and we’re building it together."
