County approves $100,000 Major Moves allocation for Enterprise Center purchase

The Steuben County Council approved a $100,000 allocation from the Major Moves Fund on May 12 to support purchase of property for the Enterprise Center project.

David Koenig of the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation told the council the EDC has advanced an application to the America’s Best Communities contest and applied for approximately $50,000 in state grant funds to make the facility appealing and usable. Koenig said the Enterprise Center project would cost roughly $1.4 million to $1.6 million in total, and local partners and foundations are pursuing additional support. "The reason I am here today is to request $100,000.00 from the Steuben County Major Moves Fund to combine with the grant funds to purchase the building," Koenig said.

The commissioners had approved the request prior to the council meeting. Dan Caruso moved to approve the $100,000 allocation; Jim Getz seconded and the motion carried with seven (7) ayes. The council recorded the allocation as a commitment to match external grant and fundraising efforts and to help secure ownership of the property for redevelopment.
