Council approves $700,000 in Major Moves funds for road repairs, plus highway budget adjustments

The Steuben County Council approved a $700,000 allocation from Major Moves funds for road repairs, and multiple related highway budget adjustments, during its May 12 meeting.

Highway Superintendent Emmett Heller and Highway Engineer Jennifer Sharkey requested additional appropriations to the Highway MVH budget: $6,000 to mechanic pay and $12,175 to highway temporary help (total $18,175). The council approved the $18,175 request and separately approved a $700,000 Major Moves allocation for road repair, construction and equipment (recorded in the transcript as $700,000 to account 1172‑000‑3000.01).

Council also approved internal transfers within the Highway MVH budget reallocating funds among equipment operator, mechanics, laborers and truck driver line items. In related business, Gary LeTourneau (Communications — Statewide 911) presented a $25,582 transfer within the 911 budget moving overtime and group insurance funds into extra help, which the council approved.

Dan Caruso moved to approve the $700,000 Major Moves allocation; Ruth Beer seconded and the motion carried with seven (7) ayes. Other highway and 911 transfers were approved by voice vote as recorded in the minutes.
