Steuben County Council designates property as Economic Revitalization Area, schedules public hearing

At the May 14 special meeting the Steuben County Council adopted Declaratory Resolution No. 05‑2019‑02 declaring specified real estate to be an Economic Revitalization Area under Indiana Code §6‑1.1‑12.1. Council members said the designation aims to stimulate development and rehabilitation of property described in Schedule A/Exhibit A, a parcel of approximately 1.88 acres described in the resolution.

Council President Richard Shipe introduced the resolution and said the council based its determination on information provided by the applicant and testimony presented at the meeting. Linda Hansen moved to approve the declaratory resolution; Ken Shelton seconded and the motion carried with seven ayes. The resolution directs publication of the adoption and substance of the resolution in accordance with Indiana Code §5‑3‑1 and names a date for a public hearing; after the public hearing the council may take final action on any tax abatement application.

The resolution states that any tax abatement will be limited to the maximum deduction allowed under the applicable Indiana Code sections and describes the property metes and bounds in Schedule A. The minutes include the formal signature block for the Steuben County Council and Auditor Kim Meyers attested the resolution.
