Mariachi Festival in Douglas, Horseshin' Around Rescue tax sale set for May community events

Two community events for Cochise County were promoted on the program: a free Mariachi Festival in Douglas and a fundraiser for Horseshin' Around Rescue.

Sergeant Jesus Davidson said the first‑ever Mariachi Festival in Douglas will be held May 9 in front of the Gadsden Hotel, with folklorico dancers, mariachi bands and food sales. "The event is actually free," Davidson said, noting proceeds from food sales will be split between the Boys and Girls Club in Douglas and the Mark Danell scholarship for public safety.

Steve Boyce of Horseshin' Around Rescue described the rescue's work rehabbing and rehoming horses (the group has taken in roughly 230 horses over its history and adopted out about 128, per the on‑air recounting). He promoted a May 16 "tax sale" at Single Star Ranch (7484 E Highway 92), starting at 8 a.m., which will offer saddles, tack and other equestrian gear to raise funds for the rescue. Boyce said the rescue travels to Tucson and other communities to pick up donated items and relies on community support.

Both organizers encouraged community attendance; the Mariachi Festival will be street‑blocked in downtown Douglas from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., while the tax sale will run from about 8 a.m. to noon at the ranch.

What's next: Organizers asked the public to attend, bring well‑behaved animals to Adventures Park for the festival and support the rescue at the tax sale to help fund transport and care for donated horses.
