Altoona council holds brief public hearing on proposed 10.75369 property tax levy; no public comment

The City of Altoona held a short budget meeting on April 1, 2024, at Altoona City Hall in which staff presented a proposed property tax levy rate of 10.75369 for fiscal year 2024–25 and the council heard no public testimony.

Staff told the council the public hearing on the levy was required by the State of Iowa Code and listed the proposed levy rate as 10.75369. Mayor Dean O'Connor opened the hearing at 6:16 p.m.; no members of the public came forward to speak and the mayor closed the hearing at 6:16 p.m.

Following the hearing, Council member Duer moved to adjourn, Council member Dunwoody seconded, and the council voted unanimously 5–0 (yes votes recorded for Duer, Dunwoody, Boka, Stewart and Evans). The clerk's attestation on the meeting record names Randy Pierce, City Clerk, and Dean O'Connor, Mayor.

The meeting was brief; no formal vote on the levy rate is recorded in the transcript of this session and no public comments or challenges to the rate were made during the hearing.
