The Piedmont City Council on May 21 received a letter of resignation from Brent Morrison, who serves on the Commercial Development Board, and the mayor asked the council to consider a replacement in the near future.
Tim Frost asked the council to authorize replacing a full‑time employee who will be leaving next week. Jubal Feazell moved to approve the replacement request, Richard Williams seconded and the motion carried.
Clerk Hinton updated the council on trail and road paving, requested approval of an estimate from Altec to repair the city’s bucket truck and asked the council to solicit bids for new trucks (2500, 1500 and a Colorado truck). Richard Williams moved to approve the repair estimate, Greg South seconded and the motion carried. Clerk Hinton also reminded the council about the Memorial Day program at Veterans Park and provided an update on Fagan’s Park.
During council reports, members discussed maintenance and procurement topics including progress on roofs for the electrical and street departments, an inventory and replacement policy for mowers, a possible putting green and Civic Center repairs; David Ivey reported there were six applicants for the Weatherization program.
Mayor Baker also spoke about the Strawberry Festival and congratulated graduating seniors. With no other business, the council adjourned at 6:33 p.m.
