Takumi Sushi at Columbia Mall approved for Class B license with patio amendment

The Howard County Alcohol Beverage Board approved a seven‑day Class B license for Sushi Columbia Mall Inc., operating as Takumi Sushi at Columbia Mall, subject to amending the application to specify patio square footage on page two.

Attorney Adam Baker introduced licensed applicant Jen (Tian/Jien) Sun and partner Zong Chen; Sun was sworn and said she owns 15% of the business, helps manage hiring and training, and has experience working in restaurants for more than a decade. Chen described a multiroom dining layout, two private rooms, a 17‑seat sushi bar and about six patio tables.

Board members asked detailed questions about hours, capacity and training. Sun said servers who will serve alcohol will take alcohol‑awareness courses; Chen said the interior is roughly 3,406 square feet and that the patio is about 1,245 square feet, though the application will list only about 800 square feet of patio to be used. The board asked applicants to confirm how the patio is accessed from the mall and whether it will be gated; applicants said entry will be controlled through a host stand.

A motion to approve the license carried with a contingency that the application be amended to list the patio area; counsel confirmed the applicants waived the right to appeal.
