The Madison County Board of Elections unanimously approved three absentee ballots and appointed two temporary election judges during an absentee-session meeting on May 13, 2024, in Marshall.
Board Chair Jerry Wallin and fellow members voted 5-0 on a series of routine motions, including approval of the meeting agenda and the April 16 minutes. Director Jacob Ray presented April’s budget report and answered board questions; the minutes record that no specific dollar amounts were included.
On a motion by Chair Jerry Wallin, seconded by the board member identified in the minutes as Lewis, the board approved three absentee ballots after verifying the contents of each ballot container. The director stored the approved absentee ballots to be scanned the next day. Secretary Dyatt Smathers later moved, and Lewis seconded, a motion to appoint David Goforth as a temporary Democrat judge and Jessica Creech as a temporary Republican judge at Hot Springs precinct; that motion also passed 5-0.
During public comment, Cheryll Williams complimented the board for the “thorough procedures used during the review and approval process of the mailed absentee ballots,” according to the minutes. The board scheduled its next absentee meeting for May 14, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. The session adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
The meeting record does not list individual roll-call votes or dollar amounts from the budget presentation; motions in the minutes are recorded with mover/second initials and unanimous 5-0 tallies.
