HCV participant urges reopening Family Self‑Sufficiency wait list and more funding

At the start of the meeting a Housing Choice Voucher participant, who identified herself as Weya, used the two minutes allotted for public comment to urge the Housing Authority to expand the Family Self‑Sufficiency (FSS) Section 8 program.

"The family self sufficiency Section 8 program is important to not just able‑bodied HCV participants. It is just as beneficial, if not more, to Section 8 HCV disabled participants," Weya said, adding that she left a written summary with staff member Nadia for distribution to the board.

Weya highlighted case management, community resources, higher education coaching, home‑ownership classes, escrow savings accounts and individualized plans to improve credit and financial stability. She singled out a coordinator named Peter in the FSS program for support in her own progress.

Staff acknowledged the comment, thanked Weya and noted the handout was being reviewed. The comment was placed on the record and will be available in the meeting packet materials referenced by staff.
