Votes at a glance: charter amendment referral, SWA ILA amendment, surplus fire truck approved

At its April meeting the Town of Southwest Ranches council recorded three formal actions.

Ordinance referral (Item 12): The council voted to submit a charter amendment to the November 3, 2026 general election ballot that would increase mayor and council compensation and add a maximum 3% annual cost‑of‑living adjustment tied to the CPIW (Consumer Price Index for Wage Earners and Clerical Workers). The motion passed on a roll call vote with all members voting yes.

Resolution approving SWA ILA amendment (Item 13): The council approved the First Amendment to the interlocal agreement with the Broward Solid Waste Authority and endorsed the authority’s master plan; staff estimated the model would cost about $3 per household per year and supporters said the plan as presented includes no new incineration at new locations over the next 40 years. Surplus property (Item 14): The council declared a town‑owned 1989 Ford fire truck surplus and authorized staff to facilitate its sale in accordance with procurement and surplus disposal procedures. A motion and second were recorded and the resolution passed unanimously.

Votes and roll calls: For the formal roll call votes recorded in the meeting minutes, council members voting yes included Council member Kosinski, Council member Albritton, Council member Hartman, Vice Mayor Jablonski and the Mayor (presiding). No no votes, abstentions or recusals were recorded on the items summarized here.

Next steps: The charter referral will appear on the November ballot if certified; staff will execute and file the SWA interlocal amendment documents and move forward with procurement and outreach tied to implementation.
