Moderator previews final warrant changes and meeting logistics ahead of town meeting

The town moderator convened a pre-town-meeting conference to review last-minute technical changes to the warrant and to brief officials on logistics for the Annual Town Meeting, scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The moderator said the meeting will include a sponsor's podium downstage right for sponsors to make main motions, give five-minute sponsor presentations and to be available to answer questions during debate. "Anybody can speak from that podium when it's available so you don't have to be a sponsor per se to speak from there," she said. Four stationary microphones will be stationed around the room and at least one roaming microphone will be available for attendees who cannot reach the standing mics.

She read a list of about 19 to 20 nonvoters and consultants who will be present and said she will "ask for leave of the meeting" for those who need to speak. Examples named during the roll call included consultants and counsel from private firms and town employees.

On logistics, the moderator reiterated that voting devices are keyed to rooms on a first-come, first-served basis and urged early arrival for anyone who wants auditorium seating. She noted an expedited check-in area planned for island home residents with mobility needs.

She also alerted participants that The Wall Street Journal intends to attend with photographers and that local public-access television will record. She asked media representatives to be as unobtrusive as possible.

The conference closed with reminders to report any issues to the moderator ahead of Monday's meeting and an adjournment of the preparatory sessions.
