County staff to draft options on whether to adopt Wichita's public-notification policy countywide

Scott Wadell of the planning department told the commission the draft public-notification policy currently applies to the City of Wichita but that staff can prepare alternatives if the commission wants broader county application. "We did the briefings yesterday. I believe the general consensus is to leave it on as new business... it is currently written up for just the city of Wichita," Wadell said.

Wadell outlined three options: keep the city-only policy on the agenda as new business, prepare language to make the policy countywide, or place the city version on consent and return later if the county wishes to consider a countywide policy. Justin, a county staff member, told commissioners he would "craft some options language on motion" so commissioners would have a menu of choices.

Commissioners also discussed alternatives like postponing the item to a later agenda because the city has already adopted the policy and county action is not urgent. The staff member noted that placing minutes and routine business earlier or later affects staff workload and that ADA compliance questions are tied to the branding-policy change that appears on both the regular and fire agendas.

No formal adoption vote was recorded in the segment reviewed. Staff will prepare option language and return the policy to the commission for a future decision.
