The Enumclaw City Council on April 27 approved Resolution 1874 authorizing the mayor to execute a grant application to the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) for youth athletic facilities lighting.
Parks Director Aliyah Hibbs said the city initially estimated relamping and lighting costs in 2024 but unanticipated price increases raised the project total. "This grant application proposes an award of $400,000," Hibbs said, adding the city would leverage $202,000 in impact fees and cover the remaining estimated $198,000 through the 2027 budget process for a total project budget of about $800,000, including a 15% contingency.
Council asked about the required match; Hibbs confirmed a 50% match requirement and said the parks committee had given approval pending match confirmation. The council moved, seconded (motion made by Councilmember Krejzer, second by Councilmember Smith per the transcript) and passed the resolution by voice vote.
The grant, if awarded, would fund lighting upgrades to existing fields and add lighting to currently unlit fields 1 and 2; staff will proceed with the application and follow the grant's match and contingency requirements.
