Giles County approves June finance report, a Tennessee Department of Health grant and Spectrum contract for schools; names notaries

The Giles County Legislative Body approved several routine items on Aug. 18, 2025, including the county finance report, two combined contracts and appointments for notaries public.

On a motion by Commissioner Tracy Wilburn, seconded by Commissioner Carman Brown, the commission approved the June 2025 Giles County Finance Director's report. The report as entered covered the General Fund, Drug Fund, American Rescue Plan funds, Probation Fund, Highway, School funds, Federal, Food Service, Debt Service, Capital Projects, Highway Capital Projects, Education Capital Projects and other capital projects.

Separately, the commission voted to combine and approve two contracts and agreements: a government grant contract with the Tennessee Department of Health (term listed as July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026) and a Spectrum Business agreement with the Giles County Board of Education for scope-of-work services. Commissioners approved the combined contracts on a roll-call vote after a motion by Shelly Goolsby, seconded by Carman Brown.

The commission also approved re-elections and a new appointment for Notaries Public at Large: Kimberly Dawn Hughes and Tonya Mullins Yokley (re-elected) and Sandra Schatz (new). The notary appointments passed unanimously on roll call following a nomination by Commissioner Tracy Wilburn and a second by Commissioner Evan Baddour.
