Commission restricts oversized vehicle parking on Moccasin Road ahead of transmission project

The Las Vegas Traffic and Parking Commission voted April 30 to establish oversized‑vehicle parking restrictions on Moccasin Road between Sun Village Park Drive and about 1,800 feet east of Squirrel's Nest Street to protect vertical clearance for an upcoming overhead transmission project.

Ravi Sierra, city traffic engineer, said the corridor will be affected by an overhead transmission project that introduces vertical clearance constraints and that restricting oversized vehicles is standard practice where clearance constraints exist. Sierra defined oversized vehicles for the restriction as those "exceeding 8 feet in width, 10 feet in height, or 39 feet in length."

Commissioner Kraft moved to approve the restrictions and read the item language into the record; Commissioner Swaddling seconded. The commission approved the motion by voice vote with three 'Aye' responses recorded on the transcript.

Staff characterized the action as proactive, intended to prevent long‑term storage uses and ensure maintenance and emergency access; no start date for enforcement was specified in the meeting record.
