Hammond board refers five bids for 606261 77th Street demolition to inspections

The Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety on May 1 reviewed five bids submitted for the demolition of 606261 77th Street and voted to refer the proposals to the Building Inspections Department for review and recommendation.

Chair (speaker 1) read the bidders and the associated bid documents into the record. The bids included KLF Enterprises of Markham, Ill., at $182,800; Underground Excavating Solutions (Hammond) at $266,800; J and M Industrial Services (Fair Oaks, Ind.) at $291,800; C. Lee Construction Services (Gary, Ind.) at $376,800; and a higher bid of $893,500 from a crew listed in the record.

Committee member (speaker 4) requested the board refer the bids to the Building Inspections Department for tabulation and a recommendation. Committee member (speaker 3) moved that the board forward the bids to inspections; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

The referral means city inspectors will review bid documentation — including Form 96, noncollusion affidavits and bid bonds — and return a recommendation to the board before a contract is awarded.
