Board imposes $500 late fee for one rental unit, waives fees for four others

At its May 1 meeting the Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety heard an appeal from Lakeisha Moore (speaker 2), a property manager who said five units were not registered for 2025 because of staff turnover and administrative confusion.

Moore told the board she had recently been promoted and that the missed registrations were an oversight. Staff confirmed that four of the properties had no prior appeals; the board unanimously imposed a $500 late fee for the address listed as 7113–15 Holman because of the timing of that omission and waived late fees for the other four properties.

The board instructed the property manager to complete the outstanding registrations and indicated the first offense for the other units merited leniency. The motion imposing the fee and waiving the others carried by voice vote.
