Carroll County outlines Veterans Celebration and 250th anniversary program

Organizers of Carroll County’s veterans celebration and the county’s 250th-subcommittee briefed commissioners on event logistics and the broader slate of anniversary programming.

Committee members described the fifth annual Veterans Celebration to be held Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Farm Museum with the Westminster Municipal Band and Midnight Run as musical features, about 40 resource organizations registered for a resource fair, family activities, vendor food trucks and a planned Chinook helicopter fly-in with a National Guard pilot on-site. Organizers said the first 250 veterans through the gate will receive commemorative tote bags and T-shirts; a commemorative lapel pin and commemorative coins designed by a community college art student (Rachel Hughes) will also be available for purchase ($10) with proceeds supporting the county’s 250th fund.

Speakers thanked sponsor organizations (including the Keller Foundation and others) and noted partnerships with the Farm Museum, veterans advisory council and local nonprofits. The subcommittee described a year-long set of signature events, traveling exhibits and a student “passport” program running May 15–Sept. 15 to encourage visits to historic sites. The committee also confirmed receipt of a $15,000 state grant that will be matched with local support for programming.

No formal board action was required; commissioners thanked organizers and encouraged public attendance.
