At the Oct. 23 Kewanee City Council meeting, a resident asked the council to address repeated instances of vehicles blocking her driveway during Kewanee High School games.
Ms. Arrington of 102 Maple Ave told the council she wanted a sign in her yard designating the space a no-parking area because "her driveway is often blocked by vehicles when there is a game at Kewanee High School." She said she had called the police in the past and that "some officers wouldn't do anything about it."
Deputy Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski responded that he would make sure patrol officers are aware of the issue and address it properly. The council did not take a formal vote or direct a specific ordinance amendment at the meeting; the exchange took place during the public-comment portion of the agenda.
The council's minutes note that blocking a driveway is illegal and that residents should call the Police Department when it occurs; the deputy chief s pledge to notify patrols was the only immediate operational response recorded.
