Lindenhurst board awards up-to-$35,000 contract for parkway tree trimming

The Lindenhurst Village Board on Oct. 23 approved a contract with Advanced Tree Care of Lincolnshire, Illinois, not to exceed $35,000 to perform parkway tree trimming in multiple neighborhoods.

Trustee Pat Dunham moved to award the contract and Trustee Ron Grace seconded; the measure passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote with Trustees Pat Dickson, Pat Dunham, Patty Chybowski, Dawn Suchy and Ron Grace voting aye.

Public Works issued a request for proposals on Oct. 17 seeking vendors to perform trimming in blanket areas rather than only responding to individual complaints, a process the department said is inefficient. The RFP identified immediate-need areas including Country Place North, Country Place South, Cross Creek, Nature's Ridge and Auburn Meadows subdivisions. Proposals were to assume at least one foreman and two laborers, a branch chipper and a dump truck, and eight-hour work days; four responses were received and Advanced Tree Care submitted the lowest cost.

Village staff said the work is expected to take approximately 20 days and that additional FY2024 budget funds were added to support the program, leaving room for contingencies and unforeseen expenses. The contract was awarded as an outright purchase order with the not-to-exceed figure of $35,000 recorded in the meeting minutes.

Next steps: Public Works will schedule the contractor to begin work in the identified blanket areas; the minutes state the village expects the trimming project to proceed under the awarded contract.
