Lindenhurst board approves minutes, bills and issues Diwali proclamation in brief Oct. 23 meeting

The Lindenhurst Village Board met Oct. 23 and handled routine municipal business including approving minutes, authorizing payment of bills, issuing a cultural-proclamation and hearing a series of staff reports and announcements.

Trustee Dawn Suchy moved and Trustee Pat Dunham seconded approval of the Oct. 9 minutes as amended to note the Board's consensus on a follow-up in Item F,3; the measure passed by voice vote 5-0. Trustee Pat Dunham moved and Trustee Patty Chybowski seconded approval of the second set of October bills totaling $331,644.55 for invoices due on or before Oct. 23; the roll-call vote was 5-0 in favor.

The Board presented a proclamation recognizing Diwali on Nov. 12, 2023; a member of the Hindu American Foundation led a prayer and Trustee Pat Dickson moved, Trustee Ron Grace seconded the proclamation, which passed by voice vote 5-0.

Staff reports included: Trustee Dickson and Trustee Grace noting an Oct. 21 adopt-a-highway event; Trustee Dunham announcing a Nov. 6 Tax Levy meeting and a Nov. 11 Veterans Memorial ceremony; Village Administrator Clay Johnson reminding the Board that the Citizens Academy concludes Oct. 25 and that a Joint Review Board meeting on the Grand Avenue TIF is scheduled Oct. 25 at 10:00 a.m.; Police Chief Tom Jones announcing a 'Season of Giving' food drive running through Nov. 11 with drop boxes at First American Bank, Village Hall and the Police Department; and Operations Director Kevin Klahs noting open positions for snow plow drivers and a public-works operator and that the Veterans Memorial would be re-caulked this week, weather permitting.

There were no public comments on agenda items, no executive session and the meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. after a motion by Trustee Patty Chybowski and a second by Trustee Dawn Suchy.

What happened next: the minutes were signed and will be placed on the record; specific implementation actions (contract start dates, licensing procedures) are to be handled by staff and reported back to the Board as needed.
