Local volunteer group urges action on motorized bikes in playgrounds

A representative of Friends of the Playground told Community Board 11 the volunteer group has strengthened partnerships with the Morris Park Business Improvement District, the 49th Precinct community-affairs team and local volunteer cohorts and has two events planned for August.

"We have submitted a formal letter to the community board outlining these concerns and respectfully asking for guidance, support, potential solutions," the Friends of the Playground representative said, citing safety concerns about motorized bikes and mopeds in a park that draws children, toddlers and older adults.

The group said it has begun grassroots outreach—cleanups and painting projects—and is preparing two events focused on wellness and community-responder relationships. Board members acknowledged the safety concern and expressed support for exploring enforcement or engineering remedies in collaboration with police and Parks.
