Business committee adds supervisor of human resources position to organizational chart

Mr. Martin presented a proposal April 29 to add a supervisor of human resources position to the district organizational chart and the committee approved the change.

Mr. Martin said the district hired a consultant to map human-resources processes and concluded the district needs a dedicated staff member to implement digital platforms and keep routine functions moving. “They plotted out all of the processes that human resources has to do, and it is quite a myriad of processes,” Mr. Martin said, adding that the new position would help transition paper-based tasks to electronic systems while other staff continue certification and onboarding duties.

He told the committee the district manages certification for about 900 teachers and onboards roughly 150 new employees a year, and said some onboarding steps—criminal background checks, ECFS checks and physicals—cannot be sped up. The position, he said, is intended to increase capacity during the digital transition with a long-term goal that improved systems may eventually reduce staff needs through attrition.

The committee moved and seconded the proposal and voted to approve the addition; the Chair announced, “Motion carries.” The meeting then moved on to other finance items.

The board did not detail a job description, salary range or an effective date for the position during the meeting; staff indicated the item was to add the position to the organizational chart and implement recommendations from the consultant.
