Board approves Adopt‑a‑Highway request from Steer family for Reservoir Road cleanup

The Peoria County board approved an Adopt‑a‑Highway request from Mary Anne Steer and family to adopt about a half-mile of Reservoir Road from Route 8 to the railroad tracks for cleanup and maintenance.

Amy, a county highway staff member, told the board the group asked to adopt the stretch and that the county typically uses the program when residents request it. "They would like to adapt Reservoir Road from Route 8 to the railroad tracks. It's about half a mile," Amy said. She asked the board to approve the request and allow the family to take part in cleanup activities.

Betty asked how long an Adopt‑a‑Highway commitment typically lasts. Amy said the original resolution set adoption periods at two years but staff are revisiting the process and coordinating with recycling partners to determine whether two years remains appropriate. The board moved and the chair declared the motion carried.

Board member Terry later asked the group to thank the Steer family for their efforts before the meeting adjourned.
