The Lyon County Board of Supervisors on April 28 held a public hearing on a proposed vacation of a portion of Cleveland Avenue and delayed any decision after hearing split viewpoints from local landowners.
The hearing, opened at 9:30 a.m., covered a stretch beginning at the south right-of-way of 250th Street and extending south to the north right-of-way of 260th Street. County Engineer Daryl Albertson and several local residents attended, and the board received comments that reflected two opposing positions: several attendees said that if the bridge on the road is not repaired they would prefer the county vacate the road so the land can be used for agriculture, while other attendees urged the board to repair the bridge and keep the roadway available for public use.
After hearing public comment, the board closed the hearing at 9:46 a.m. and directed Engineer Daryl Albertson to provide a cost estimate to replace the closed Cleveland Avenue bridge. The supervisors then voted to table Resolution 2026-16, which would vacate the county road, until the board receives the engineer’s estimate.
The minutes record that multiple individuals representing differing perspectives spoke during the hearing but do not attribute specific statements to particular attendees. The board’s action was procedural: it postponed a decision to allow staff to assemble cost information before considering vacating the road.
The board will revisit Resolution 2026-16 after receiving the engineer’s cost estimate and any additional information brought to the next meeting.
