Supervisors approve liquor licenses, personnel changes and $331,219 in claims

During routine business on April 28 the Lyon County Board of Supervisors approved several licensing items, personnel actions and multiple claims and payroll registers.

The board approved liquor license renewals for the Rock Rapids Gun Club and Grand Falls Casino and approved an ownership amendment and tobacco license renewal for the Dollar General store in Larchwood. The supervisors also approved various employment actions: hiring Rick Bos as part-time EMA Coordinator (start date 5-1-2026, $25/hour); promoting Ben Blauwet to Excavator II at $34.21/hour effective 4-22-2026; moving Levi Horstman to Civil Deputy in the sheriff’s department with no pay change; hiring a seasonal maintenance worker Tanner Lincecum at $18/hour; hiring Deputy Riley Weiler starting 5-1-2026 at 70% of the sheriff’s salary; and noting the retirement of Deputy Rob Ver Meer effective 4-30-2026.

The board reviewed and approved conservation claims dated April 20, 2026 totaling $11,672.48 and larger claims dated April 28, 2026 totaling $331,219.52, covering a range of vendors and fund allocations. Payroll warrant registers and payroll disbursement registers were reviewed and approved as recorded in the minutes. The Board also accepted a presentation and flag from Randy Waagmeester of the Iowa Bar Association commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary.

These routine approvals were recorded by motion and the minutes note that motions carried unless otherwise stated. The board adjourned at the conclusion of business.
