Board puts proposed committee-policy update on first reading to allow president to appoint alternates

The Fort Atkinson School District Board placed a proposed update to board policy 0155 (committees) on the table as a first reading, giving members time to review the change before a second reading in May.

Speaker 3 said the proposal would add a sentence clarifying that the president may, at their discretion, appoint an alternate member to a standing committee or fill any vacancy occurring during the term to ensure continuous operation and that two board members are present at committee meetings. "This simply allows... the president, is able to appoint another member so that we assure that we have 2 board members present," Speaker 3 said.

Board members agreed the change provides flexibility for committee work during the year when members may be absent; a motion to place the proposed update on the table was moved and seconded and passed.

The proposal will return for a second reading at the May board meeting.
