Committee forwards HCA engagement resolution to council after regional endorsement

The Asheville City Council policy and finance committee considered a resolution urging HCA CEO Sam Hazen to engage directly with stakeholders across Western North Carolina amid ongoing concerns about the quality of care at HCA facilities.

Mayor (committee chair) introduced the measure and noted the resolution was recommended by the Land of Sky Regional Council and has been adopted by other local governments in the region. Committee members said the item need not be decided here and can be added to the agenda for the full council meeting.

The committee did not take a vote in the session. Staff said the resolution requires no staff action or expenditure; it is a formal request for HCA leadership to hold more thorough, consistent engagement with regional communities. The committee indicated the resolution will return for the council’s consideration at a forthcoming meeting.
