Nordonia SGO reports nearly $320,000 raised to help pay for all‑day kindergarten

A board member updated the Nordonia Hills City School District Board of Education on April 28 that the local Scholarship Grant Organization (SGO) raised nearly $320,000 for the current year, funds the SGO intends to use to help families cover all‑day kindergarten costs.

The speaker explained how Ohio's SGO tax‑credit works: individual donors can contribute up to $750 ($1,500 per married couple) and claim a dollar‑for‑dollar state tax credit. For the 2025 cycle the speaker said the SGO raised $195,000 in individual donations and received a $75,000 anonymous gift; for the current year the SGO raised $297,000 from individuals and received a $20,000 anonymous donation, bringing total available funds to nearly $320,000.

The SGO representative said applications were accepted through April 15 and that the money will be used to reduce or eliminate kindergarten fees for eligible Nordonia Hills families. The board member encouraged eligible families to apply via the SGO website.

The SGO update was presented as informational; no board action was required. The district will incorporate these funds in its planning for all‑day kindergarten enrollment and family assistance.
