The Alton Select Board moved forward on multiple public‑works procurement items at its April 28 meeting, approving bid solicitation for aggregate supplies, directing a competitive process for the Roberts Cove bridge replacement, and awarding the town’s 2026 paving contract.
Members reviewed a proposed DPW aggregate and gravel supply RFP covering a contract term from May 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028, and voted to solicit bids based on the package as presented. The board then debated the Roberts Cove bridge replacement: several selectmen emphasized following town policy to solicit multiple bids rather than waiving competitive requirements, and the board voted to instruct DPW to initiate a formal bidding process for the bridge replacement.
On the paving contract, the board reviewed three bidders and noted a merger/restructuring of a prior vendor (GMI, now part of Peckham Road Corporation). Members said the firm had performed well in prior work and moved to award the 2026 paving contract to Peckham for a total bid of $970,108.80.
The town also reviewed a proposed town hall roof RFP but tabled action on that package until the DPW director (Seth Gowland) can be present to address technical questions about sheathing, disposal of removed materials and warranty specifications.
