DeSoto board unanimously adopts agenda, minutes and advocacy representative

Board Chair opened the DeSoto County School Board's April 28 meeting at 5:30 p.m. and presented the superintendent's agenda, noting one item had been removed because "the national group that that holds our board stuff online had a crash," the chair said.

Dr. Mott moved to accept the superintendent's agenda. The motion was seconded and the board approved it unanimously. The board then approved minutes from its April 14 meeting after a motion by Dr. Goodman and a second by Dr. Ma.

The board took a separate vote on item 12.02, the district's representative to the Florida School Board Association Advocacy Committee. Dr. Goodman nominated himself as the representative with Ms. Mercer named as alternate; Dr. Mott seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously.

Other routine business — including the financial reports and the package of new-business items (excluding the separately voted 12.02) — passed by unanimous votes. No member dissented during the voting recorded in the meeting.

The meeting record shows the board handled the items as routine governance actions; chairs and members repeatedly used the standard motion-second-vote format to move business along. The board adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
