Budget committee approves victim-advocate funding, emergency management and surveyor pay change

The Klamath County Budget Committee approved a series of funding and compensation items in rapid succession during its discussion of the draft budget.

A motion to fund victim advocates, moved by a committee member and modified in committee, passed on a voice vote. The original district-attorney request was reduced in committee to $213,125 to be paid from the named project fund; the motion was seconded and approved.

The committee next approved an emergency-management funding request to be paid from the general fund; the motion was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote.

Committee members also moved to adopt the elected-officials compensation review board recommendation to increase the county surveyor's compensation. The motion passed; the transcript records both '5,000' and '3,500' in discussion of the amount and one committee member (S9) stated they would abstain from compensation recommendations related to commissioners but supported the surveyor adjustment. The committee approved the compensation-board recommendation as moved.
