The Gilbert Public Schools governing board approved a 2% pay increase for all employees for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
Associate Superintendent Bonnie Betts told the board the total cost of the one‑year, across‑the‑board raise is approximately $5,760,000. To pay for the increase the district will rely on a mix of sources: about $3.81 million from the Classroom Site Fund (one‑time drawdown), roughly $2.41 million from maintenance and operations and other fund sources to cover program‑specific staff increases. Betts flagged budget risks that could change the net effect, including an anticipated enrollment decline (the district is projecting about a 1,200‑student loss in the coming year) and a possible minimum wage increase that would require a midyear adjustment.
"The 2% raise for all employees, the total cost is $5,760,000," Betts said during the presentation. She walked the board through projected savings (attrition, vacancy management and site consolidations) and said district leaders believe they can reach the increase without instituting layoffs or a reduction‑in‑force process.
Board members thanked finance and cabinet staff for work to construct a budget that funds compensation while maintaining financial flexibility. After discussion, the board moved and approved the 2% pay increase by voice vote.
