Council continues vote on proposed concrete batch plant after community health concerns

The Fort Worth City Council voted to continue consideration of a proposed concrete batch plant to its June 9 meeting after staff said a revised site plan had been submitted late and required review. Councilmember Carlos Flores moved the continuance and said staff would review the revised plan and required notifications to nearby communities.

An applicant representative, Joe Pasanese, outlined the proposal and answered initial questions. Public commenter Adrian Smith urged the council to include the community in further discussion, citing health concerns over dust and crystalline silica and noting that an elementary school sits to the south of the proposed site.

Council members described the required notification process and noted the nearest residential community was more than 300 feet from the site and the school at least 1,200 feet away, which the council cited as meeting state setback thresholds. Council said staff would examine the revised site plan and confirmed the case would be continued so community members could review materials and participate.

The continuation was recorded as passed; the council directed staff to ensure notifications and community engagement prior to the June 9 hearing.
